I have multiple Google accounts on my personal iPad, and the work account is not the main one. The main account is also my personal and it does not have Gmail (it's a Google account with @hotmail.com login).
Using the regular UI buttons, it's nearly impossible to switch to a. work account and b. have it open the usual desktop Gmail.
Here's how I've managed to do it by tweaking the URL.
-
Start by figuring out your work account index in the list of opened accounts in your browser. The personal account is the first in the dropdown, so the index is
0
. The work account is the second, and the index is1
. -
Open a private window and log in to the account you need. Switch to the view you need: either basic HTML or the regular Desktop version
-
Copy the URL it takes you to. For example:
- https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/h/abcd0123/?v=lui for Basic HTML
- https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/?ui=2#inbox for the regular desktop version
-
The
u/0
part points to the account index that was opened. Because you're in the private mode, you only have one account opened, so the index is0
. Replace it with your index in the URL you copied and visit the URL in your main browser.
